Creative Study-

Even though my program doesn’t require you to take tests I still had a time in my life where I did. There have been many occasions where I could hardly study for a test anymore. I drove myself crazy memorizing facts and reading thick, picture-less textbooks. But it didn’t have to drag.

Here are some creative ways to make it more bearable:

1. Shower crayons – Write all your notes in the shower with bright, colorful, washable shower crayons made out of soap. It’s a refreshing start for the day.
2. Neon Notecards – Information written on brightly-colored flash cards helps your brain retain the information better. Colored note cards help you associate specific qualities to the information on the card.
3. Invent Stories – It’s an opportunity to be fun and creative with words. You won’t even realize you’re studying.
4. Yell Your Facts – Shout your notes in different voices and pitches. Hearing the different pitches in your voice will help the information stick and give you a good laugh.
5. Sing Your Notes – It may sound silly, but it really works and doesn’t even have to rhyme.
6. Talk it Out – Force your notes into conversations. Get your friends together and read your notes to each other. It is similar to a study group, but more relaxed and fun.
7. Play Games – Websites like Quizlet and Flashcard Machine let you input your information to make study games with flash cards.

8. Doodle – Color and doodle around your notes. You won’t even realize you are retaining information as you dot your “i”s with suns or flowers.
9. Outline Everything – Make outlines of the chapters after you read to keep organized.

MPTC instructors are always willing to try new study techniques. If your class is boring, share these great ideas!
